Who we are

The Change Management Institute's (CMI) mission is to promote excellence in the management of change by setting standards, educating and supporting change management practitioners and promoting the value of change management.

The CMI is the only independent professional organisation in Australia that is uniquely positioned to advance the interests of change management.
Since 2005, the CMI has been providing opportunities for change management professionals to build knowledge and skills and network with other change professionals.

The CMI aims to provide:

  • Education - developing the capability of change practitioners
  • Networking - hosting a range of networking opportunities
  • Accreditation - developing standards and recognising excellence in the management of change

History

As the rate of organisational change is likely to remain high for the foreseeable future, the demand for change management is set to increase. When the CMI was initiated there was no other governance or industry body providing quality control or consistency around change management standards and resources. In the absence of clearly defined professional standards it can be difficult for professionals and organisations to identify the knowledge, skills and competencies required to successfully deliver effective change.

In 2004 a group of experienced change managers, who value the profession, came together to create an organisation that could work with business, academia and change professionals to address this gap.

Since early 2005, the CMI has run a number of events on a range of change management topics. Sponsored by organisations such as AMP, Ernst & Young and Westpac and featuring industry leading speakers these events have been well attended and received excellent feedback.

The events have provided opportunities to educate attendees on different facets of change management as well as building a greater awareness of the necessity for a professional change management approach to organisational transformations. These past events and continued interest in the CMI offerings have demonstrated that there is broad appeal from many different stakeholder groups in the work of the Change Management Institute.
