Leveraging the Power of Advocates … and the Devil’s Advocate (USA members webinar)

Change leaders need to engage and effectively utilize supportive stakeholders who are willing to reinforce key change messages and encourage others to try out and adopt behaviors needed for the change to succeed. Yet change leaders also need to make sure they seek out, hear, and potentially act upon views that are in opposition to what the change is intended to accomplish or how the change is being implemented.

In this presentation, Kathy Zukof, author of The Hard and Soft Sides of Change Management, will explain why it’s critically important to tap into and leverage both perspectives - advocates and the devil’s advocate. She’ll outline concrete steps change leaders can take to put supportive stakeholders to work to achieve the advocacy that’s needed for the change to succeed. And she’ll review an approach that leaders can take to actively seek out contrarian and critical viewpoints and use this information to improve project outcomes.

About our speaker

Kathryn Zukof is a Learning and Organizational Development practitioner and educator with over thirty years of experience in industries ranging from manufacturing to higher education to technology services. Her work has focused on helping organizations create and implement innovative approaches to leadership development and succession management, foster an environment of continuous learning, and plan and navigate through transformational change. Kathryn is fascinated by the concept of polarities. How do you achieve the "both-and" while addressing seemingly opposite and competing forces?

Kathryn has a PhD in Social Psychology and an MBA in Marketing. She has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Research Methods, and Marketing. Before transitioning to a career in L&OD, Kathryn held management roles in client relations, product development, and marketing in the technology services sector.
